The Berkeley Undergraduate Scholarship is the University of California’s most historic scholarship program which recognizes the academic merits of undergraduates.
Be Part of a Life Changing Experience
Each year over 3,000 students receive a Berkeley Undergraduate Scholarship, funded from one or more of our nearly 900 university and private philanthropy funds. There is no application process other than applying for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application. If you are looking to positively impact the next generation of students and help support their future, you can do so by giving today.
New and continuing students who meet the criteria set by the Academic Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Honors and Financial Aid are awarded on the basis of both academic merit and financial need.
California residents and AB540 eligible students entering from high school with a 4.1 grade point average (GPA) or better
California residents and AB 540 eligible students entering from a community college entering students with a 3.5 GPA or better
Continuing students are awarded with a 3.5 GPA or better
The amount of the scholarship award is based on your level of financial need. Students with financial need and a GPA below the 3.5 threshold are awarded a University Grant.

Your "Berkeley Undergraduate Scholarship" will appear in CalCentral beginning in the spring. Starting in the late summer, the amount of the scholarship will convert to an actual named scholarship award. For example, your $6,000 Berkeley Undergraduate Scholarship may be converted to two different scholarships, like a Campanile Scholarship for $4,500 and a Phoebe Hearst Scholarship for $1,500. The named scholarships should total to the same amount of your initial Berkeley Undergraduate Scholarship award, unless there is a change to your overall eligibility.
