Financial Aid Rights and Responsibilities

When you accept the offer of financial aid and partner with UC Berkeley to finance your education, you agree to accept and fulfill your responsibilities as a financial aid recipient. This page summarizes the Financial Aid Rights & Responsibilities.

Reporting Additional Resources and Changes in Enrollment

You agree to immediately report to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office the receipt of funds or support from all other sources such as awards from outside agencies, grants, scholarships, fellowships, department awards, tuition/fee waivers, etc. Outside resources can be reported in the My Finances section of CalCentral.

You agree to immediately report to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office any changes in your enrollment or expected graduation date.

You agree to immediately report to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office if you, your spouse (if married), or your parents (if you live with my parent(s)) are receiving a Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) provided by the Department of Defense or are living on a military base. This information can be reported by opening a case.

Award Revisions and Communication of Financial Aid Information

UC Berkeley reserves the right to adjust financial aid offers and to correct any awarding errors. Changes to qualifying information or revisions of federal, state, or institutional policy may result in updates to aid eligibility and adjustments of financial aid offers. Financial aid awards are subject to the availability of funds.

In accepting a scholarship, you give UC Berkeley permission to release your academic, financial and biographical information, as required by the scholarship donor, to enforce the terms and conditions of the scholarship.

You acknowledge that information regarding financial aid and financial transactions will be communicated and conducted electronically.

You agree to read all messages and information regarding my financial aid.

The student budget and grants and/or scholarships, if applicable, are determined by housing status. If the University cannot verify your housing status, you will be required to provide proof of living arrangements and your budget and aid offer will be adjusted accordingly.

Satisfactory Academic Progress and Course Attendance

You agree to understand eligibility requirements, including the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy. Financial aid recipients must meet the SAP requirements as defined on the Satisfactory Academic Progress page of the Financial Aid Website to receive financial aid.

If you do not pass a single class during a term and have stopped attending classes, you may be treated as an unofficial withdrawal and may be subject to a return calculation on my aid.

You understand that failing a course due to non-attendance may result in financial implications.

Acceptable Use of Funds and Information

You agree to repay any funds I receive which cannot be reasonably attributed to meeting my educational expenses for the current academic year at UC Berkeley, and the amount of any repayment is based on regulations published by the Secretary of Education.

You may be subject to a fine of up to ten thousand dollars, imprisonment for up to five years, or both if you give false or misleading information.
